Dyke, speaking at a press conference earlier today, said: “Paul and I go back along way and besides being a great footballing talent, he is a loyal friend. Mark, T. Dyke, Carty, G. Dyke, Moon and left Adamson on the bench. </p> <p>They pitted their wits against The White Lion hotel, artguably the favourites for the cup and the cupids taught them a lesson. G. Dyke Bagged 2 as did Mr moon and the cupids spanked the favourites 4-1. </p> <p>Next up in the semi were Brazil 70, who like the Lions finished above the cupids in the league. Dyke and Moon grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck once more, Dyke netting 3 and Moon 2 though Moons were slightly more attractive than Dyke's hit and hope efforts. </p> <p>After the longest penalty shoot out in history (i think it ended 16-15) Northern Lights finally limped through past a simon eels led fat ox. </p> <p>For much of the final, Cupids looked the better side but it was the Lights than shone thru scoring first through dogman then again through cox who beat tony carty once all game and unfortunately scored. Adamson, off the bench for Dyke Snr, Finally decided to shoot and notched a late conselation, but it was too little too late and the final finished 2-1. </p> <p>Two runner's up medals in a week isn't that nice, but hey its better than nothing. The Troggs limped to victory over Egerton a week ago and then compounded the fans misery by allowing Ashford eagles to take all 3 points at the weekend. Several of the Troggs players were accused of bottling the game by Club chairman Tim Archer who was overheard saying "7 or 8 of those players weren't up for that at all, Tony Carty was the only one I saw win a tackle"</p> <p>The ever controversial Rich Moon, was again in the papers as fickle troggs fans vented their frustration through their usual scapegoat. Fans gathered outside the clubs headquarters- the flying horse - chanting "mooney out". One angry fan even set ablaze a nana moon doll, thought to be an effigy of the troggs forward. </p> <p>Other fans and pundits alike questioned rookie manager Paul Newman's ability to motivate his team. Newman has got to come up with answers fast as the Troggs face Appledore in the cup quarter final on Sunday. Newman is widely expected to drop mooney and play himself up front after notching the only troggs goal of the weekend to make it 3 in 3 for the larger than life playmaker. Newman is also thought to be considering the easy way out after being heavily tipped for the vacant post at Fratton Park. Archer admitted Milan Mandaric had been on the phone regarding the manager’s availability and whilst he didn't give anything away he did say "every employee of this club has a price tag"</p> <p>Newman responded to the rumor by assuring fans his future was at the club and he would turn things round he said "I have a cunning plan". A source from inside the club told us that this plan was to bring back Troggs legend Butch. Smarden, off the back of eight consecutive victories (equalling a longstanding club record), were expecting an easy game against their struggling rivals, Egerton, a competent if not spectacular outfit looking for their first win of the domestic campaign.</p> <p>A frosty pitch and crowd congestion around the eastside of the pavilion delayed kick off for approximately 15 minutes. Once underway, the game was contested at a frantic pace, with misplaced passes and flying tackles. Thuggery is employed as a matter of course for some members of the Troggs team and it was players in the mould of George Dyke and Tony Carty, which shone in the opening period. A moment of quality was required to break the deadlock and it inevitably came in the shape of Richard Moon, who drove the ball home from 20 yards on 18 minutes. Egerton upped the tempo and caused Smarden several problems in the latter period of the first half, with the impressive Rob Keeper making some speculator stops to deny an increasing frustrated Egerton unit. That said Smarden can also regard themselves as unlucky not to have extended their lead before half-time, with Andy Adamson and Moon, both guilty of missing gilt-edged chances.</p> <p>Egerton started the second half strongly and it was a handled Tony Carty pass back, which handed the travelling team an opportunity to equalise on 65 minutes. Following robust negotiations with the official, Tim Archer, a free-kick was awarded and subsequently despatched with glee into the top right hand corner to delight the travelling support with a well deserved equaliser. The pitch was heavy and mistakes were becoming increasing common as the second half progressed. There was a flurry of chances at both ends in what had developed into an open game. Again some great keeping from Rob had kept Troggs on terms, while Moon, Windibank and Adamson all missed good opportunities to regain the advantage for the Smarden-based outfit. It was eventually a brave Ben Gibbs tackle on 74 minutes, which set up the winner, releasing Adamson, who made no mistake from 6 yards. Troggs saw out the game with the passion, if not the finesse, that the supporters have come to expect from a young side, widely tipped for promotion this season.</p> <p>MOM went to Richard Moon, who has always been a keen advocate of deciding such awards on effort rather than ability. Moon released a short statement via his agent, Spankus Frank, today stipulating that he would be available for selection against league rivals ashford eagles on 27th Nov. Moon went on to blame a small faction of the smarden-based club's travelling support for the confusion. Moon has been unsettled at the club since the arrival of George Dyke as assistant Manager in the summer. In recent Press reports Dyke has described their relationship as 'strained'. It is understood that the two men are currently conversing through a third party, the team's journeyman left back Bruce 'chopper' Dyer. In a keenly constested battle the Troggs enjoyed the majority of the possesion breaking down the Falcons on 25 mins as another crunching tackle from dyke left the ball at Newmans feet who spanked in a low drive from 20 yrds out. The Troggs should have scored again in the first half, Dyke and Mooney the main culprits. Special mention must go to Mooneys awesome effort at a lob, which the keeper caught around waist hieght. However, the gaffa was happy to come in at the break 1-0 up.<br> The second half went much the same as the first with Gibbo and Adamson coming close and were it not for more poor mooney finishing and some good stops from the Falcons keeper this could have become a now customary Troggs rout. Falcons kept pushing for the equaliser and an impressive strike on 65 minutes was met with an equally impressive save from Rob. Newman brought on Pepper and Log on the wings and it seemed to do the trick as the Troggs wrapped up the game on 85 minutes. Newman slipped Mooney through and he finally found his scoring boots slotting the ball past the despairing Keeper. Adamson took his chances well twice putting the Troggs in the lead. However, Ashford Rail battled back both times and defensive errors saw the Troggs limp in 3-3 at the break. After the customary inspirational half time team talk from the gaffa, the Troggs came out with intent in the second half. They took a while to break the deadlock but, in Troggsland, when it rains it pours. Adamson opened the floodgates after dyke pinged a ball at his midriff which he somehow controlled and calmly slotted past the keeper. Adamson went on to score a second half hat-trick and Mooney notched his second and seventh of the season to add to rails misery.
